서울대 경제학과를 졸업하고 영국 케임브리지대학 경제학 박사학위를 받았다. 매일경제신문사에서 14년간 기자, 경제부차장, 논설위원 등을 역임하고 1999년부터 싱가포르국립대학 경제학과 교수로 재직중이다. 주요 저서로 The Economics of the Latecomer, 『한국경제 제3의 길』 등이 있다.

After studying economics (BA) at Seoul National University and Cambridge University (M Phil and Ph D), Jang-Sup Shin worked as a staff reporter, Asia correspondent, deputy economics editor, and editorial writer for the Maeil Economic Daily for 14 years. Since 1999, he has served as a professor at the National University of Singapore. His major works include The Economics of the Latecomers: Catching-Up, Technology Transfer and Institutions in Germany, Japan and South Korea(English), A Third Way for the Korean Economy(Korean), and Global Challenges and Local Responses: The East Asian Experience(English; forthcoming).
