The Quarterly Changbi 186, Winter 2019
Abstract
Ahn Byong Jin discusses connections between the US presidential primary scene in the Democratic Party and the period of great transformation we are facing with climate crisis and transition in the capitalist system. Considering that the Democratic Party is transitioning from decades of Clintonism to a “New Deal 2.0 party,” he introduces various aspects of this bold shift in policy within the party, summarized with the phrases “stakeholder capitalism,” “progressive network international order,” and “progressive populism and movement politics.” Korean progressives can find many reference points in this article, in which the author discusses the possibility of a Democratic victory in the next election and their prospects afterward, in the context of Trump’s “tyranny” and the Democratic Party’s structural predominance.
