[Feature] Rewriting the Green New Deal: Beyond Green Growth / Kim Sang-Hyun
The Quarterly Changbi 187, Spring 2020
Abstract
Kim Sang-Hyun discusses various issues surrounding the Green New Deal, which has been emerging as a solution to the climate crisis, focusing on the US model. Currently, there is no single Green New Deal methodology. While discourse around green growth, closely related to economic development discourse, is currently dominant, a more radical Green New Deal approach, which argues for the fundamental transformation of the capitalist system as the root cause of the climate inequality, is opposing it. The author’s perspective, which emphasizes people’s lives and global ecology over profit and growth, is supported by abundant examples and logical demonstrations.
