Born in 1943 in North Gyeongsang Province, Kim Si Up studied Korean literature (BA and MA) at Sungkyunkwan University. Currently a professor at his alma mater, he has served as the president of the Korean Classical Literature Association and is the director of the Daedong Institute for Korean Studies at Sungkyunkwan University.
