영미문학연구회는 소장 영미문학 연구자들을 주축으로 1995년 6월 3일에 창립되었습니다. 현재 전국에서 220여 명의 회원이 활동하고 있는 우리 연구회는 상설 연구조직으로, 영미문학의 연구와 성과의 교류 및 대중적 확산을 통하여 우리의 문학·문화 발전에 이바지하고자 합니다.
영미문학이 학문에서는 물론이고 문화 전반에서도 무시 못할 파급력을 갖는 우리의 현실에서 영미문학에 대한 올바른 이해는 대단히 중요하다 하겠습니다. 더구나 영어권의 영향력이 지구 전체에서 강화되고 있는 세계사적 현실을 감안할 때 영미문학 연구자들의 책무는 더욱 무거워졌다 할 것입니다. 영미문학연구회는 이런 시대적 요청에 부응해 개개인의 창발적 연구를 결집함으로써 더욱 발전적이고 생산적인 논의를 산출해내고자 출범했습니다.
연구회의 주요 사업은 분과활동, 학술발표회, 학술대회, 학술지와 단행본 발간 등입니다. 중세·르네쌍스 영문학, 근대 영문학, 현대 영문학, 미국문학, 비평이론 등의 각 연구분과에서는 정기적으로 모임을 갖고 있습니다. 매월 열리는 정기 학술발표회에서는 각 분과 및 개별 연구자들의 연구성과를 공유하며, 대외 학술행사로서 1년에 두 차례 학술대회가 열립니다. 또한 반년간지 『안과밖』 및 비매학술지 『SESK』를 통해 영미문학 및 문화에 대한 공론의 장을 열고 있습니다. 이런 협동작업의 결실로 전문적 깊이를 갖춘 영미문학 개설서인 『영미문학의 길잡이』 1·2권을 출간했습니다. 우리 연구회의 취지에 공감하는 연구자들의 많은 관심과 참여를 바랍니다.

Founded by younger scholars in 1995 to contribute to the growth of Korean literature and culture by conducting research on British and American literatures and disseminating the fruits of study, the Scholars for English Studies in Korea (SESK) counts some 220 members nationwide. Considering their significant effect on not only scholars but also the public, British and American literatures must be understood in depth. The burden on scholars becomes greater with the increasing influence of Anglophone cultures and literatures worldwide. The SESK endeavors to respond to such demands by conducting and publishing research and holding regular symposia and conferences on Medieval-Renaissance British literature, modern British literature, contemporary British literature, American literature, and critical theory. In addition, through the biannual In/Outside: English Studies in Korea (published by Changbi) and the journal SESK, the organization provides an open forum for dialogue on British and American literatures and cultures. As the fruit of such collaborative effort, it has produced A Guide to British and American Literatures, vols. 1-2, (published by Changbi).
