서울대학교 경제학과를 졸업하고 같은 대학원에서 ‘1980년대 중국의 농업개혁’을 주제로 한 논문으로 박사학위를 받았다. 한국농촌경제연구원(KREI) 책임연구원을 거쳐, 현재 한신대학교 교수로 재직 중이다. 『창작과비평』 『동향과 전망』의 편집위원으로 활동하고 있다. 우리 사회의 대안적 지역경제 모델로 ‘한반도경제론’을 제기하고 연구하는 한편, 청년과 함께하는 ‘사회혁신’ 운동에 관심을 기울이고 있다.

지은 책으로 『새로운 진보의 대안, 한반도경제』 『중국 농업, 동아시아로의 압축』 『북한 농업개혁의 현황과 전망』 『중국의 농촌개혁과 경제발전』 등이 있다.

Born in 1963, Lee Il-young studied economics (BA, MA, and Ph D) at Seoul National University. A professor of Chinese studies at Hanshin University, he has authored China’s Agrarian Reform and Economic Development and The Korean Economy’s Development Strategy in an Age of Northeast Asia and co-authored East Asia in an Age of Open-Door Policy: Industry and Policy and China on the Road to the WTO: Change and Continuity.
