미국의 역사가로서 뉴욕대학 사학과 교수. 미국의 외교정책, 라틴아메리카, 대량학살, 인권, 노예제 등에 대해 폭넓은 연구를 해왔으며 국제적 진보매체에서 주목할 만한 평문을 다수 발표했다. 저서로 The Empire of Necessity: Slavery, Freedom, and Deception in the New World, 퓰리처상 최종심에 오른 Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford’s Forgotten Jungle City, Empire’s Workshop: Latin America, the United States, and the Rise of the New Imperialism 등이 있음.
