[Article] Transnational Far Right Networks and Korean Democracy

The Quarterly Changbi 211, Spring 2026

In the article section, we feature an essay by Yoo Jung Ae that examines the current state of Korean democracy and the tasks ahead as it confronts the rise of transnational far right alliances. Yoo warns that, although the domestic far right forces have weakened, after December 2024 insurrection ended, their international networks have instead solidified and reached a dangerous level of coordination. She argues that because these far right alliances constitute a political project designed to attack democratic institutions themselves, defending democracy requires building an infrastructure for a transnational counter alliance grounded in core democratic principles.
