[Feature] Fiction in the Era of First-Person Narratives / Jung Ju-a

The Quarterly Changbi 192, Summer 2021

Abstract

Essays have been advancing by leaps and bounds these days in our reading world, warranting the moniker “the golden age of healing essays.” Literary critic Jung Ju-a’s article reads the socio-cultural significance of the recent essay craze in our society as the expression of youth’s agonized response to a need to answer the question “how to live.” At the same time, it examines the new challenge that the era of first-person narratives, which intentionally choose self-centeredness, despite its limitation in perspective, raise for the fictional genre, through fictional works by Park Solmay, Kim Keum Hee, and Choi Eun-young.
