창작과비평

1943년에 태어나 서울대학교 건축과를 졸업하고, 김중업•김수근 선생을 사사했다. 1970년 조창걸 선생과 함께 서울대학교 응용과학연구소를 창설하고, 같은 해 월간 『현대건축』을 창간해 주간을 지냈으며 1972년 아키반건축도시연구원을 설립했다. 1990년 UN HABITAT Ⅱ에서 21세기 도시선언 「메가리데 헌장」을 발표했으며, 베네찌아 건축도시대학교, 뉴욕 컬럼비아 건축대학원, 베이징 칭화대학교, 충칭대학교 등의 초빙교수, 객좌교수를 역임했다.

제1회 한국건축문화대상, 제1회 올해의 건축인상, 철탑산업훈장, 보관문화훈장, ANTRON AWARD 대상, 아시아건축상 금상, 베네찌아비엔날레 특별상과 이딸리아 정부 국가문화훈장 등을 받았으며, 2011년 성신여자대학교에서 명예 미술학박사학위를 받았다.

현재 충칭대학 객좌교수, 명지대학교 석좌교수이자 명예 건축대학장이며, 아키반건축도시연구원 대표로 있다.

Born in 1943, Kim Seok Chul studied architecture and urban planning (BS) at Seoul National University. In addition to managing Archiban, an urban planning research institute, and Seok Chul Kim & Associates, an architectural company, he is the head of the Preparatory Group for the Future of Architecture and a visiting professor at the University Institute of Architecture of Venice (IUAV). His major works include Seoul Arts Center, Seoul Opera House, Jeju Shinyoung Cinema Museum, Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and Korean National University of Arts. He has held a solo exhibition at the Palazzo Tron a San Staè at the invitation of the IUAV and a joint exhibition with Nam June Paik at the Muzej Mimara in Zagreb. He has also participated in the drafting of the International Group Charter of Megaride (IGCM) and presented it at the UN Habitat II conference as a representative. His publications include Korean Housing in 2000, World Architect Series I: Kim Seok Chul, Millennial Cities, Millennial Architecture, Kim Seok Chul’s Tour of World Architecture (published by Changbi), and Kim Seok Chul’s Tour of 20th-Century Architecture.
